Huston we got a problem – Oh, do we?

Having watched tons of horror movies in which the world ends. Nothing should be able to surprise me anymore. However, that was before the swine flu came into the news again. Earlier today the Mexican government closed down all schools, universities and larger events in the country. Something that I wouldn’t have dreamed in my wildest dreams. I guess, it opened my eyes once more to the danger we might all be in. It’s only fair to say that till now, there had only been a couple reported cases of the swine flu. Of who none are close to Ciudad Obregon. Seeing pictures of empty streets in Mexico D.F. is so absurd that, it almost feels like Mexico is in a war. Somewhat it’s true – War on Swine flu.
The Television ads are like the “Duck and Cover” commercials during the cold war. They show tips on how to cope with this disease: no shaking hands, no kissing, ventilating rooms and washing hands often.
Like I’ve said earlier there haven’t been any reported cases in Ciudad Obregon. However, we’ll lay low the next few days to see how it all will develop.

I can’t image how my parents must feel, knowing that their son is more then 20 hours away. I only know, that it doesn’t feel good knowing that I’m separated by a big ocean from my family at such a time.

In case anyone has new developments you can always drop me a line. This especially counts for my parents and brothers.

Best wishes to Mexico and the rest of the world.

Edit: There had been a couple of people with mouth covers, it wasn’t anything close to what you see on the pictures from Mexico D.F.
